Ready, Set, Go! Wildland Fire Program

Ready, Set, Go!

One of the goals of the Ready, Set, Go! Program is to provide the guidance and implementation tools for fire departments to help their communities become a “Fire Adapted Community.”
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service considers a community to be fire adapted if it has taken action to:

• Reduce risk; the more actions the community has taken, the more fire adapted it becomes.

• Used the process as a pro-active approach that concentrates on pre-fire strategy and action to reduce risks, and thus cost, rather than relying on suppression activities alone to protect communities after a wildland fire starts.

• Raised the understanding that these efforts place the responsibility of preparing for and fighting wildland fires not just on the fire department, but on the community as a whole.

For more information visit the the Ready, Set, Go! website here - http://wildlandfirersg.org or call the Kremmling FPD at 970-724-3795.

Community Wildfire Protection Plans

June 21st, 2011

Community Wildfire Protection Plans, or CWPPs as they are commonly called, present one of the best opportunities to tackle the challenges facing communities situated in the Wildand Urban Interface (WUI) and fire prone areas. The process for developing these plans demands collaboration between community members, fire districts, and local, state and federal government representatives and supports locally developed solutions. These plans are intended to be viable, usable documents that: identify and prioritize hazardous fuel reduction project areas; recommend measures to reduce ignitability of structures; identify values at risk; priorities for action items and; current levels of preparedness.
